Aug. 13th.-                    A near record, 39 Warriors and their guests braved 100 degree temps and
the cramped accommodations at the Steak and Ale for a great meal and wonderful fellowship. The
event was scheduled to honor Penny Dollar Campbell who, along with friends Dolores Jackson and
Judy Stanford, left the cool climes of New Mexico to experience Memphis in August. Actually, Penny |
came to the River City from her new home in Brookville, Ohio.

Here a bit of trivia compliments of
regular Mike Hines. Prior to being called The Steak
and Ale, the restaurant’s name was the Jolly Ox. Local codes prohibited the name of an alcoholic
beverage from appearing in the name of a commercial establishment.

More input was made to the planning of the cruise scheduled for next June. Leonard Engelberg
has begun contacting travel agents.

There”. Even today, the movie can still raise the hair on the back of the neck of

those who’ve seen it numerous times. This film was the first to establish the now

retrieved from an artic ice flow, taken to a weather station where it’s revived and

wreaks havoc before being dispatched. One claim to fame the film has is that the title role was played
by the 6’7”, 235 lb. James Arness of Gunsmoke fame. Arness refused to attend the film’s premier, as
he was somewhat embarrassed by the role saying the make up made him look like a giant carrot.
Ironically, the creature actually was supposed to be a vegetable that requires human blood to survive.
Although Christian Nyby was in fact the director of the movie, many still credit it to Howard Hawks.
